Determining Classwork Grades
Classwork must be rigorous and standards-based to demonstrate students' progress toward content mastery. Expectations for grading must be clearly communicated to students and parents /guardians in the course syllabus. Students’ grades should reflect their level of mastery of content standards. Therefore, teachers shall use standards-based grading techniques (e.g. use of rubrics, criterion-based checklists, etc.) on relevant assignments in order to determine and to inform students and parents of the level of mastery of the standards.
Determining Homework Grades
Homework is an opportunity for extended practice and application of the content standards. Homework must be assigned at least once a week.
Plagiarism/Cheating
Cheating and plagiarism are considered a very serious academic offense. Principals will establish procedures for plagiarism/cheating. Any student who plagiarizes or cheats on an assignment and/or test should be referred to the principal, assistant principal(s), or principal designee along with the supporting evidence.
Grade Reporting
Progress reports are issued every four and a half weeks within each nine week grading period. Report cards are issued every nine weeks at the elementary and middle school level. Report cards are issued every eighteen weeks at the high school level. Report card grades will include both letter and numeric grades for all K-12 students.
Incomplete (I)
An “I” refers to failure to take the required End-of-Course (EOC) test or incomplete work in non-EOC courses as a result of extended illness or some circumstance that warrants an extension of time. Incomplete grades due to a missing required EOC must be resolved by the last day of the next school semester; however, the principal has the discretion to extend the deadline based upon individual circumstances.
Required Use of Georgia Milestones Assessments End of Course
The Georgia Milestones EOC shall be used as the final exam in the courses assessed by a Georgia Milestones EOC. Georgia Milestones EOC reports shall provide students, parents, and educators with individual scores on each EOC taken; student scores must be recorded on, in, or with the individual student report card. (Refer to: SBOE Policy: 160-4-2.13). Students enrolled in any of the 10 core courses identified by the SBOE are required to participate in the Georgia Milestones EOC assessment at the end of each course.
If a student is not present for the first EOC administration (main or mid-month), the system shall issue an Incomplete and allow the student to test during a future testing window (main or mid-month). This Incomplete shall remain as the student’s course grade until their testing requirement is fulfilled. If, after a second attempt has been made to have the student test in a future testing window, and the student does not take the EOC, the course grade shall reflect that the student did not participate in the test. The system shall issue a zero as 20% of the final course grade. There should be sufficient documentation to indicate the student was notified of testing opportunities and did not participate. The EOC is Georgia’s assessment utilized for federal high school accountability. As a result, systems must provide for the participation of all students in completion of an EOC course. 1. Late Enrollment: Grading of High School Students Who Enter During a Semester:

Previously Enrolled:
-
Students who enter a Clayton County Public Schools high school during a semester who have previously been enrolled in a high school program shall be graded on the basis of their transcript from the previous school attended and their performance in class for the remainder of the semester.

Not Previously Enrolled:
-
Students who enroll in a high school during the semester who have not previously been enrolled in school during that semester shall declare at the time of enrollment whether or not their participation in class shall be on an audit basis or a credit basis:

The school should make every effort to involve parents/guardians in this Declaration of Intention at the time of enrollment.

Students enrolling in a Clayton County Public School high school for the first time during a semester on a credit basis shall be responsible for the standards and content for the total semester's work and all grade-bearing activities for the class. The teacher shall provide the student with sufficient exposure to critical standards and content that were presented prior to the student's arrival. Teachers shall be responsible for informing students of their obligation for grade-bearing activities. These students will be assigned grades for credit at the end of the semester based upon their declared intention at the time of enrollment.

The criteria for auditing a course is as follows:

Semester long course: Students missed 25% (4.5 weeks) of the course at the time of enrollment;

Yearlong courses: Student missed 25% (9 weeks) of the yearlong course at the time of enrollment.

The criteria for earning credit for a course is as follows:
-
Student enrolled in school within the first 25% (4.5 weeks) of the semester long course;
-
Student enrolled in school within the first 25% (9 weeks) of the yearlong course.

In the event that a student can demonstrate mastery on a district approved assessment, then, the student's audit status may be changed to course credit option with administrative and parent approval.
2. Withdrawing:

From A Course: If a student withdraws from a course after the first ten days of the semester, the withdrawing student will receive an incomplete. The Superintendent or designee may make exceptions to this administrative rule if a different action is appropriate.

From School: If a student withdraws from school prior to the completion of a semester, the courses taken, grades earned, or attendance shall not be recorded on the permanent record. This information shall be recorded on the withdrawal form and the decision concerning grades and credits shall be the responsibility of the school to which the student transfers.

From A Dual Enrollment Course: If a student withdraws from a dual enrollment course, a grade of NC (No Credit) will not be recorded on the high school transcript; however, it may remain on any college transcript. Students should contact the college regarding its specific transcript policies and/or procedures as the school system cannot alter the college’s transcript. Withdrawals from dual enrollment courses may affect full time high school student status and extra-curricular eligibility. Students who are enrolled in dual enrollment must maintain satisfactory academic progress; otherwise, considerations may be made if Dual Enrollment is the most appropriate program for students.
3. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual/Joint Enrollment Courses, and Cambridge Assessments:

Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment (DE), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Cambridge Assessment (CA) courses shall be weighted in the following manner:

4. Grade Point Average:
